Bold headline-worthy update: Ipswich is upgrading a substantial portion of its gas infrastructure to improve safety, reliability, and the environment.
In the course of these improvements, 6,562 feet (2,000 meters) of aging metal gas pipes will be replaced with durable plastic equivalents over an eight-week window from February 16 to April 15.
The replacement work will take place along these streets: Freehold Road, Parliament Road, Upland Road, Bloomfield Street, Henslow Road, Ringham Road, Cowper Street, Tokio Road, Crabbe Street, and Kembal Street.
Wigfell commented: These upgrades bring meaningful environmental benefits by reducing methane leakage and supporting a transition to lower-emission gas options, such as biomethane. This is a crucial step toward a cleaner energy landscape. To meet current and future demand sustainably, the UK will rely on a diverse mix of energy sources.
Although the project is divided into separate sections, our teams will strive to work as efficiently as possible to finish promptly. Each time a new section begins, diversions will be updated, and residents will retain access to their homes throughout the works.
He concluded: We appreciate the community’s patience as we implement these safety-focused measures to allow our engineers to perform the work both safely and efficiently.
