Get ready for an exciting series of events hosted by NYPL during NYFW, where we delve into the fascinating world of fashion business!
Unveiling the Secrets of the Fashion Industry
NYPL's Business Center is organizing a series of events, both in-person and online, to celebrate the 2026 New York Fashion Week. These events are a treasure trove of knowledge for small business owners, startups, freelancers, designers, and anyone curious about the fashion industry.
Over three days, we'll explore the strategic, research-backed insights, and real-world experiences that go into building and growing fashion ventures. From branding and intellectual property to market research and sustainability, we'll cover it all!
But here's where it gets controversial...
On Wednesday, our online event, "Sustainable Fashion Industry and Market Research," will showcase the research methods and insights into sustainable fashion and related industries. We'll also examine the current performance of fashion designers in the U.S. and explore consumer behavior trends related to sustainable shopping.
Thursday brings us "The Importance of Intellectual Property Rights in Fashion," featuring Liz Jackson, Acting Director of the Northeast Regional Outreach Office of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She'll delve into trademarks, patents, and copyrights, and their crucial role in the fashion industry.
Later that evening, our in-person event, "Branding 101," will explore the essence of branding beyond just logos. This introductory class will cover the fundamentals, including defining a company's mission, identifying target audiences, and developing a consistent brand voice. Through NYPL's business databases, we'll provide market research, competitor analysis, and audience insights to build trusted brand names.
On Friday, our online event, "The Luxury Fashion Consumer," will aid in researching the luxury fashion sector, offering marketing insights and consumer trend analysis. We'll utilize databases like Mintel, EMIS, Statista, and Business Insights: Essentials. This event will also present a 2025 report on U.S. luxury consumers, providing in-depth analysis of consumer insights on luxury goods and brand KPIs for luxury fashion.
And finally, our in-person event, "Introduction to Intellectual Property and Fashion," will conclude our series. This class will teach attendees about protecting business assets and ideas, with an introduction to the four types of intellectual property.
NYPL's Thomas Yoseloff Business Center, also a Patent and Trademark Resource Center, will guide us through this journey.
Don't miss out on these insightful events!
And this is the part most people miss... NYPL also offers access to WWD archives from 1910-2015, providing a historical perspective on the fashion industry.
